Panic has broken out in Britain as pro-Palestinian groups threatened to disrupt one of London’s biggest Christmas events over its sponsorship deal with Barclays.
Campaigners have called for the boycott of Capital’s Jingle Bell Ball, which will be headlined by Coldplay and Katy Perry at the O2 Arena next weekend.
There are plans by protesters from The Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC) and Palestine Action to picket the shows, raising fears that militants could try to disrupt the event.
The protest is part of a wider campaign against Barclays over its financial links with defense industry companies that activists say supply weapons. Israel.
Speak with The TelegraphA spokesperson for the PSC said they are urging people not to attend the Jingle Bell Ball and other Barclays-sponsored events.
A spokesperson for the PSC said: “We are urging people not to attend the Jingle Bell Ball and other events it sponsors as part of our boycott of Barclays.
“Barclays uses its support of arts and culture to whitewash its financial ties to military operations in Gaza and gain respect for itself.
“Families in Gaza do not have the freedom or safety to celebrate Christmas and would like to see an end to this conflict.”
There are now fears that Coldplay frontman Chris Martin may be pulling out of the shows.
Chris Martin, the lead singer of Coldplay, has expressed his support for peace in the Middle East and called for an end to oppression and occupation.
During the band’s headline performance at Glastonbury earlier this year, Martin called on the crowd to send love Israel and Palestine, and to show a “beacon of togetherness”.
He also sang a duet with Palestinian singer Elyanna and during a concert in Tokyo, Martin led fans to send love to Gaza, Israel, the West Bank and other places.
Earlier this year, members of Palestine Action targeted ten banks and Barclays locations across the country by covering them in red paint.
The organization wanted to pressure the bank to withdraw investments from the Israeli arms trade and fossil fuel industry, especially due to their shareholding in Elbit Systems.
